Sportcarriere is assisting his international client in the recruitment of a Head of Operations for a major sport event happening in France next year on temporary contract.

Role

The Head of Operations will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Look, Signage and Wayfinding project of this major event across all venues (competition and non- competition) as designed by the organisers.

The role is not venue operations during the live phase of the event, our critical operational period is during build and bump-in, however, our period of high intensity operations will be from Mid June to Mid September. Planning for this phase will require planning and management skills combined with a deep understanding of how to get things done in a major international sporting event environment.

Functions & Responsibilities
  • The role will directly manage the logistic planning office (LPO) whose overall missions are globally detailed in the below sentences.
  • Responsible for all operational aspects of the project.
  • Leadership and consideration of your team to provide expertise and experience to contemplate possible actions.
  • Risk management, forward planning an mitigation.
  • Helping set strategic goals alongside project team senior management.
  • Responsible for the flow of operations information to senior management.
  • Responsible for budget controls and checks aligned with the project accountant.
  • Direct and control warehousing and distribution to venues.
  • Direct and control supply chain operations.
  • Direct and control key operational aspects i.e., Plant hire, accreditations, H&S, sustainability, fleet, and transport.
  • Develop all necessary policies and procedures to ensure safe and healthy working environments across the project.
  • Maintain working relationships with all other Department Heads to ensure effective co-ordination of all project activities.
  • Provide direction, advise, and support to the Operations and Logistics team.
  • Present reports to the Senior Project Manager defining progress, risks, and solutions.
  • Building strong and trusted relationships with key decision makers in the project and carry out face to face meetings with the client.
  • Quality assurance at all times.
  • Manage your team, provide motivation, support and leadership to maintain project momentum.
  • Interact with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally in a complexe environment with high level of pressure.
Profile Requirements
  • Extensive operations management experience for complex multi venue operations.
  • Proven experience in people management, including leadership, delegation and influencing.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, organisation and problem solving with great attention to detail in multi-sport international events (at least in 3 international multi-sports events).
  • Proven experience in risk management
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of operations management processes and procedures.
  • A “hands on” “can do” attitude with an ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Great communication and team building skills : you have the ability to get the best out of your team to maintain project momentum.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially in Microsoft Excel) and Smartsheet proficiency.

  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and think logically and methodically.
  • Must be fluent in French and English.
