Spa-Francorchamps circuit

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is a major player with international renown in motor sports, tourism and corporate events.

In terms of motor sport, it hosts all the FIA World Championships on the track: Formula 1 (Belgian Grand Prix), the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps/WEC and the Spa World Rallycross of Benelux, as well as the 24 Hours of Spa and numerous other foreign championships, national events and test days. In 2022, international motorcycle racing will return to Spa-Francorchamps when the circuit hosts the FIM Endurance World Championship.

Track Days, Public Driving Experiences and Individual Track Introduction Sessions fill the rest of the circuit’s calendar. The track is open 220 days a year.
Tourism at Spa-Francorchamps is growing fast, thanks to new activities including guided tours and a centenary exhibition.

Last but not least, the circuit is active in the B2B sector with an increasing range of corporate events (team building, seminars, trade fairs, etc.) and various VIP packages (VIP boxes, activities and so on).
The objectives of “Le Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps”, which is a public limited company, are:
• The organisation and promotion of all types of activity on the circuit
• The management, maintenance, improvement and development of the circuit in order to promote regional economic growth.

As the Walloon Region owns 99% of the shares, it is a public body, with a majority of regional representatives on its Board of Directors. It currently has around forty employees.
To support the growth of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, we are looking for a :
COMMERCIAL & MARKETING DIRECTOR – EVENTS DEPARTMENT

Missions

You report directly to the senior management team, and your role consists of developing and implementing a strategic plan for your area of business which spans three domains: commercial, marketing and events. Together with your team, you are also responsible for increasing the company’s revenue (primarily through sponsorship).

Your main responsibilities are as follows:

  • you are in charge of defining the key points of a strategic business plan in conjunction with senior management, implementing this plan with your team, and defining objectives and developing the necessary means to achieve the plan’s objectives;
  • you manage the commercial, sponsorship and boutique team which is made up of 4 people;
  • you use your business networks to the full in order to secure substantial sponsorship deals with regional, national and international players, and you take charge of the acquisition and management of the “big accounts”;
  • you ensure the acquisition of sponsors and the sale of products for large sporting events which the circuit is promoting or organising;
  • you are also in charge of the development of marketing activities, as well as sales based on market studies, competition analysis, targets and requirements;
  • you ensure the development of sales and promotion of the tourism network (centenary exhibition, guided tours, Tour Operator, etc.) and the circuit’s products (Individual Track Introduction Sessions, Public Driving Experiences, B2B seminars, advertising sales, boutique, etc.) at regional, national and international level;
  • you manage the relationship with the circuit’s Business Club;
  • you ensure proper management of concession contracts (food & beverages, merchandising, etc.) and supervise the renting out of the track (Track Days, Incentives) and VIP boxes;
  • you ensure continuous monitoring of marketing and prospection activities by your department (ROI)
  • you guarantee that procedures are respected and contribute to continuous development by sharing good practices and conducting cross-team projects.
Profile
  • You have a master’s degree and 5-10 years of commercial and marketing experience in a role at a similar level.
  • You have acquired your experience in the sports sector.
  • You are used to developing within an international network. If you are not a Belgian resident, you commit to being on site regularly, which means at least 3 days per week.
  • You have an excellent level of English and French (spoken & written), and knowledge of Dutch is also desirable.
  • You have expertise in the fields of sales, marketing and sponsoring.
  • Knowledge of legislation related to public procurement is desirable.
  • As an excellent communicator, you are flexible and diplomatic in your relationships and are able to convey the right messages.
  • You are a genuine leader who knows how to motivate teams with enthusiasm and dynamism.
  • You are an astute negotiator, capable of adapting to a wide variety of counterparts.
  • You are organised and proactive in your work and you assume all your responsibilities with all the required self-discipline.
  • You are very flexible in terms of working hours and travelling for work (you will be working at weekends and making some business trips abroad).
